The key to hiring an Atlanta storm damage repair contractor is having all the facts.

Whether your roof or entire home has been damaged by hail, lightning, falling trees or other storm-related causes, finding a qualified contractor doesn’t have to be a hassle. You need a professional, well-established, reputable contractor - someone like Glen Huff Remodeling. We’ll repair your home to its original condition, safely and quickly. We’ll also help you through the process and work with your insurance company so there are no out-of-pocket costs beyond your deductible.

Beware though, of contractors who promote possible insurance fraud. Those who say they’ll pay your deductible or bid your repairs “outside of the insurance company's estimate”, are companies you should think twice about before hiring.

Also, after receiving the insurance company's settlement, be aware that if you try to bid the project out to get a lower price, you could be committing insurance fraud, according to the Georgia Insurance Commissioners Office and your insurance carrier. This type of price shopping is entirely appropriate for “retail renovations and remodeling but not for storm damage repairs”. With insurance claim repairs you could be personally responsible for repaying the balance of the benefit should your insurance company elect to audit the repair contractor's project billing. Insurance companies are not in the business of over-paying claims. Their benefit amounts are calculated based on decades of experience and their knowledge of what it will cost to have reputable, properly licensed businesses perform the repairs correctly for their policy holders.

A reputable storm damage repair contractor should be someone:

  1. With a county registered business license.
  2. With a Georgia state “General Contractors License”.
  3. That has an established business under the same name with a multi-year successful financial and business history.
  4. Who perform storm repair work for the insurance company's benefit amount, not a company or individual who is “working for wages”.
  5. That has employees on payroll to perform all administrative and project management functions of the company. These are functions that any remodeling or storm repair contractor should never surrender to outside uncontrollable third parties.
  6. Able to verify workers compensation and general liability insurance coverage.
  7. That pays income taxes and payroll taxes on time.
  8. With a proven history of quality work and customer service, without ever having changed the name of the business. Many unqualified contractors will have trouble with workmanship, finances or other issues and simply shut down their business only to reopen the next week under a different name. Then those contractors, through arguably less-than-honest sales tactics, convince unknowing homeowners to hire them, only for the homeowner to find out half way through the project that it's going to cost more and take longer than originally committed.
  9. Who agrees in writing within their “Contract or Construction Agreement”, that the client will be charged “NO MORE” than the insurance benefit paid plus their current deductible.
  10. Maintains a membership with the Better Business Bureau and has a multiyear record of “A” or better.
  11. Maintains a membership with, The National Association of the Remodeling Industry.

When choosing a storm damage contractor always remember two things:

  • MOST IMPORTANT: HIRE A SOLID, REPUTABLE BUSINESS YOU CAN TRUST.

  • LEAST IMPORTANT: THE PRICE. THE INSURANCE COMPANY WILL BE COMPENSATING THE CONTRACTOR FOR THE REPAIRS.
